At this rate, the NBI should consider changing its name to the National Broadcasting of Allegations Institute. Since when did the unverified statement of a suspect become sufficient to publicly drag politicians into the headlines?

Last time anyone checked, that’s called an investigative lead—not a guilty verdict. A criminal investigation is supposed to gather evidence first, then identify the responsible parties. Not the other way around.

Documents. Financial records. Communications. Independent witnesses. Those are evidence. A suspect saying, “Si ganito ang nasa likod,” is where the investigation begins—not where the press conference should.

When law enforcement starts naming names before laying out corroborating evidence or filing charges, the process begins to resemble a public relations campaign more than a criminal investigation.

If the case is solid, present it in court. If all you have is someone’s untested accusation, then the loudest evidence is the microphone.Justice is supposed to be blind—not easily distracted by cameras and headlines.
