DAVAO CITY Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte welcomed Hon. Shiomura Ayaka, a Member of the House of Councillors of Japan’s National Diet, during a courtesy call on Wednesday, August 5, reaffirming the long-standing friendship between Davao City and Japan.
The visit marked Shiomura’s second official trip to Davao City, following her first visit in August 2024, where she also met with Mayor Duterte.During the meeting, Mayor Duterte and the Japanese lawmaker exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation and explored opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

They also exchanged tokens of friendship, symbolizing the enduring ties between the people of Davao City and Japan. Mayor Duterte expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued partnership with Davao City, recognizing its valuable contributions to the city’s growth and development through various initiatives over the years.
For her part, Shiomura reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to fostering stronger people-to-people ties and expanding avenues for cooperation with Davao City. The courtesy call underscored the shared commitment of both sides to further enhance friendship, cultural exchange, and future partnerships, reflecting the strong and enduring relationship between Davao City and Japan.


The meeting was attended by officials from the City Government of Davao and members of the Japanese delegation.
