DAVAO CITY — Davao City officials on Wednesday marked the 10th anniversary of the Roxas Night Market bombing by paying tribute to the victims of the deadly attack that shook the city on September 2, 2016.

Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte and Vice Mayor Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II visited the Roxas Night Market site to offer flowers and prayers in memory of those who lost their lives and those who were injured in the bombing.

They were joined by Police Col. Peter Bauzon Madria, city director of the Davao City Police Office; City Social Welfare and Development Office head Julie P. Dayaday; and P/LtCol. Angel B. Sumagaysay (Ret.), head of the Public Safety and Security Office.

The commemoration served as a solemn reminder of the lives lost and the families whose lives were permanently changed by the tragedy.

City officials stressed the importance of continued vigilance and public cooperation in keeping Davao City safe, emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility between authorities and the community.

Ten years after the bombing, Roxas Night Market has continued to operate as one of the city’s gathering places, drawing residents and visitors for food, commerce and entertainment.

Its return to normalcy, however, has not erased the memory of the tragedy. The city continues to remember the victims and honor their lives by strengthening its commitment to public safety and vigilance.

September 2 remains a day of remembrance for Dabawenyos—a painful chapter in the city’s history that continues to remind the community of the value of life, unity and collective responsibility for peace and security.
